According to the Frank and Rosa Caudill book, Benjamin Franklin Rice married Emily Jane May on October 13, 1870. On February 7, 1879 Ben’s father deeded him a tract of land on Long Fork. Ben and Emily built a log house the property. With the exception of five or six months spent in South Point, Ohio the rest of their lives were spent on this farm and in this house. Ben was baptized in the Liberty Baptist Church organized in 1884 and a charter member of the Riceville Baptist Church organized in 1907. Ben was buried in the Trimble Gap Cemetery in Ivyton; his wife Emily, their infant daughter and son Willie are also buried there.


Married to Emily May (1850-1900) on October 13, 1870. They had nine children:

Willie Rice – died unmarried

Fred Rice – married Trinnie Fairchilds

Charles Jackson Rice (1882-1954)

Rose Rice – born Feb 12, 1884. Died May 15, 1962. Married Frank Caudill on Feb 20, 1905.

Virgie Rice – married Dr. Sanford Wright

Harry Rice – married Chloe May

Bertha Rice – married Lester May
